Fettuccine with Ham and Serra
Serves 4
Ingredients:
- 1 lb. fettuccine pasta
- 1 tablespoon salt
- 1 medium onion, finely sliced
- 3 strips bacon
- 3 thick slices ham
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 1 tablespoon flour
- 1 cup milk
- 6 ounces Serra Cheese, shredded, (1 ½ cups)
Direction:
Boil a large pot of water for the fettuccine pasta. When the water begins to boil vigorously, put in salt and then add the pasta. Boil until pasta is al dente.
Meanwhile, cut the bacon into small strips (about 1 cm wide) and fry the bacon in a medium frying pan. When the bacon is cooked but not crisp, toss in the onion and cook until soft. Chop up ham into small pieces and toss into the mixture. Heat thoroughly. Turn off heat and set aside.
In a medium saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat and let simmer for 30 seconds. Add the flour to the butter and stir for 30 seconds. Add the milk, a little at a time, whisking continuously. Add the Serra cheese into the sauce. Let the cheese melt. Stir to ensure the cheese is well blended.
When the pasta is cooked, drain and return it to the pot. Pour the bacon/onion/ham mixture into the pot and mix with the pasta. Pour the cheese sauce over the pasta and mix. Serve.
